You can get every clue right and still come up empty if the answer is missing from the solver's word list. That's what happened with UNCAP, the answer to Wordle #1940 on October 11, 2026.
Terry sent us a note through our feedback form: the actual answer never appeared among the possible solutions. Terry worked it out on the fourth guess anyway, but our solver should have been able to help.
We checked the report and reproduced the problem. Even with U, N, C, A, and P entered in all five green positions, the solver returned no matches. Terry was right.
UNCAP is now included, and we've checked that it appears with both the full spelling and partial clues. Thank you, Terry, for taking the time to tell us what went wrong.
What we found
UNCAP is an ordinary English verb: to remove a cap. We confirmed the spelling in Merriam-Webster and checked the answer against the New York Times' published puzzle data.
Our past Wordle answers archive had the correct answer. The separate word list used by the solver did not. Loading the larger dictionary couldn't help, because UNCAP was missing from that list too.
That distinction matters. An answer can appear in an archive without being available as a solver candidate. The report gave us a reason to check that the two agreed.
We checked the rest of the archive, too
We compared the published answers through October 11 against the solver's word list and found three more omissions: GUNKY, GRIFT, and WOOER. All four words are now included.
We've also added regression checks for these missing answers, including a browser test for UNCAP with a complete spelling and partial clues. These checks help us catch a missing entry before the same problem reaches another reader.
The solver still lists common words first. A word's position in the results reflects its frequency, so an unfamiliar word may appear farther down the list. But it should be there when it fits your clues.
Keep the reports coming
If a word you expected isn't showing up, leave a comment below with the exact spelling and the clues you entered. If you're reporting a daily puzzle, include the date or puzzle number so we can check the right one, especially when we're in different time zones.
The comment section is right under this post. You can share a missing word, point out an error, or tell us how the solver worked for you. We read every comment and appreciate the help.
Our solver covers more words than the daily Wordle answer pool, so appearing in our results doesn't mean every word game will accept a word. We check suggestions against dictionary entries and established word lists, then verify the update on the live site.
Thanks again, Terry. A short report helped us fix four missing answers and improve the checks behind the word list.
