Added nine words to the 5-letter word list after a reader sent us a whole batch in the comments: rille (a long, narrow valley on the Moon), chyle (the milky fluid the small intestine produces during digestion) and phyle (a tribe or clan in ancient Greece) at a low frequency tier, plus the older and dialect words edile (a Roman magistrate, also spelled aedile), incle (a linen tape), gerle (a Spenserian spelling of girl), medle (an old form of meddle), dwile (a floor cloth, from East Anglia) and neele (an old word for needle) at the lowest tier. One more suggestion, snafu, was already in the list. Every one of them now shows up in solver results and on the related word-list pages. We started a blog. Let me tell you what that actually means, because it is bigger than it sounds. I have been running this site since January 2022, more than four years, and this is the first time I am writing to you directly. Not that we have never talked. I have been reading your comments and replying to them for months, and that is honestly where this came from: the same good questions kept coming back, and a reply box is too small a place to answer them properly.

So here is the first one: The Best Wordle Strategy, Explained by Information Theory. It takes on the question I get most: what actually makes one guess better than another? The short answer is that a good guess splits the answers that are still possible into smaller groups. I tested 11 popular starting words against all 1,880 answers Wordle has used so far, and wrote down what I found. CRATE is my pick for everyday play, and four-vowel words like ADIEU do worse than most people expect. It also covers the trick for escaping _IGHT traps, where a word that cannot possibly be the answer is still your best move. We rewrote the Wordle Solving Strategy guide on our home page. It had not been updated in a long time, and some of it was out of date. The letter frequency numbers are now counted from real Wordle answers instead of general English, and a few were noticeably off: E ends 19.7% of answers, not the 14.9% we used to show. The starting word list is reordered so the strongest words come first. We also stopped recommending a fixed pair of opening words as the best approach. It is easy to remember, but playing the same second word every time can waste a turn testing letters your first guess already ruled out. New in the guide: a table showing how much each popular opener actually narrows the field, and the real numbers behind the _IGHT escape trick - guessing one of the five candidates wins about 40% of the time, while a word like FLAME lifts it to 80%.

The dictionary just got a major reliability update. We fixed several problems that left many familiar words and word forms without a meaning, so most words in your results now open with a useful definition. Definitions also load faster, making it quicker to explore one word after another.

Word meanings are now more reliable. We refreshed the dictionary behind the site and now serve it ourselves, so looking up a result no longer depends on the old service. Tens of thousands of words include clear meanings, parts of speech, examples, and similar words, while pronunciation still uses the voice already available on your device.

Three brand-new solvers join the family: Spelling Bee Solver, Blossom Solver, and Anagram Solver. Type the 7 hive letters and the Spelling Bee page lists every word and pangram, grouped by length with the same frequency ranking you know from our Wordle results. The Blossom page speaks that game's language instead: every word is scored with the real point rules, and a small table shows the single best word for each bonus petal so you can plan all 12 submissions before spending one. The Anagram page finds every exact rearrangement of up to 15 letters, plus the shorter words hiding inside. All three run entirely in your browser, share the same dictionary as the main solver, show common words first with the rare ones one tap away, and let you click any word for its meaning and pronunciation. Pronunciation got a tune-up: more words can now be read aloud, with clearer, more natural voices. On supported devices, playback uses a voice already available on your phone or computer, so there is no separate audio file to download.

Ever wondered how much work your clues are really doing? Now you can see it. Solve as usual, then look right under the results heading for a quiet new line: Narrowed down from 39,944 words - see how. One tap opens the story of your solve. In Board mode every guess gets its own line - watch tens of thousands of words collapse to a few hundred after your opener, then to a handful - each row with its colored tiles and the share of words it eliminated. In the Classic form the same story is told by color: what your greens did, what the yellows added, what the greys finished off. The numbers count down before your eyes as the panel opens (they hold still if your device prefers reduced motion), and the last line adds it all up: Your clues eliminated 39,934 of 39,944 words (99.9%). And in the spirit of staying out of your way, nothing about it is pushy: no pop-ups, no animations while you work - the panel appears only when you ask for it and closes with one tap. Board mode is now the default on every solver page. Between screenshot paste, click-to-play, one-tap color repeats and real undo, the board has become the fastest way in - so new visitors now start there. If you prefer the Classic form, nothing changes for you: a saved preference always wins, and the tabs above the solver switch anytime. Two smaller touches shipped alongside: the results header now says what clicking a word will actually do - Click to Define or Play on the board, or Click to Play on Board once you've saved that as your default - instead of always promising a definition, and the Solve row now sits properly centered on tablet-width screens.

Stop retyping your board - just show us a screenshot. Take a picture of your game, then hit the new Paste screenshot button above the board, and Wordle Solver reads the whole grid for you: every letter, and every green, yellow and grey. On a computer you can also just press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V) anywhere on the page, or drag the image straight onto the board. On phones the same button opens your photos, so the screenshot you took thirty seconds ago is two taps from a solved puzzle. Your guesses then flip into place row by row, exactly the way the game reveals them. It handles light mode, dark mode, the high-contrast colors and most Wordle clones, and it quietly ignores the on-screen keyboard, share buttons and everything else around your board. Any letter it was not completely sure about gets a white ring so you can fix it before you solve, and the whole import undoes in a single step if it read the wrong board. One thing worth saying plainly: your screenshot never leaves your device. All the reading happens inside your browser - nothing is uploaded, to us or to anyone else. It works on every word length from 3 to 18. Tidied up the results card. Before you have solved anything it no longer reserves a big block of empty space with an unexplained divider line floating in it - the instructions and the green/yellow/grey key stay exactly where they were, and everything below them moved up by about 220 pixels. Short results, like a single match or a no-match message, no longer sit in an oversized box either.

Board mode now colors your repeats for you. The same letter in the same column always gets the same color in every guess - so tapping one of them now paints all of them, and a letter you type into a column already proven green arrives green. Guessed SINCE, FIRST and RISKY and the I keeps landing in slot 2? One tap, not three. The tiles that follow along give a quick pulse so you can see what changed, and Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z) takes the whole thing back in one step. Double letters are handled carefully: when the same letter shows up twice in one guess, the grey-or-yellow call genuinely can differ between guesses, so those tiles are left for you to set - except for green, which is never in doubt.

Found your next guess in the results? Click it straight onto the board. In Board mode, clicking a word now offers a choice: see its definition, or play it on the board instantly - no more retyping it letter by letter. The page scrolls right back up so you can watch the word land on your next empty row, tiles already confirmed green arrive pre-colored, and a little toast keeps the definition and an Undo one tap away. Accidental double-click? Relax - a quick repeat tap on the same word never adds it twice. Tick Remember my choice and your favorite becomes the default - changeable anytime in Settings (the gear icon up top). Board mode now has a real undo. Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) steps back through everything - including the color taps that browser undo always skipped - and Ctrl+Y or Cmd+Shift+Z brings a change back. On phones, the on-screen keyboard has its own Undo key. Tapped one tile too many? One press fixes it.

New Unique sort for results: words with the most different letters come first, so one guess can probe more of the alphabet. Sorting also got smarter under the hood - every sort now ranks your full result list, not just the first 50 shown, and your chosen order sticks around between solves. Missing a sort you'd love? Long puzzle answers are not always one word. The 8-18 letter solvers can now search two-word combinations - including answers like LUKEBRYAN - and let you switch between Single words and Combined words without losing your clues. The extra word lists load only when you ask for them, so the normal solver stays just as light.

The Quick Start bar above the solver got a full redesign. A tiny animated board now acts out the whole flow on repeat - letters land grey, one tap turns a tile yellow, two taps green, then Solve - so new visitors can see how it works before reading a word. The video buttons finally say what they open (Tutorial and See it solve Quordle, each with its length) and play in a pop-up right over the page instead of pushing everything down. Board mode also gets its own brand-new walkthrough of solving a real Quordle in seconds.

Polished the way the site feels to use, with clearer links between related word lists, better light and dark mode styling, and several typo fixes.

Meet Board mode - a whole new way to enter your puzzle. Retype your guesses on a board that looks just like your game, tap each tile until it matches the colors on your screen, and hit Solve. No more translating your board into form fields in your head. Playing Quordle or Octordle? Add extra guess rows with one tap. You'll find the new Board / Classic form tabs above the solver on every word length, and whichever you prefer can be set as your default in Settings (the gear icon up top). The classic form isn't going anywhere.

Reorganized Settings into two tidy tabs - Input Method and Session Persistence - so each choice gets room to breathe.

Sharpened the solver's duplicate-letter math: when a single guess shows the same letter as two yellows plus a grey, results now stick to exactly two copies of it - fewer stray suggestions on double-letter puzzles.

Word-list pages (like 5-letter words starting with A) now load a lighter script build without the board code they never use - a small but welcome speed-up, especially on phones.

The floating result tip (Found N words) no longer collides with the bottom anchor ad on short windows - it hovers just above the ad and slides back down when the ad closes.

Hide past Wordle answers now lets you pick a range: the last 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or all time. Repeats are rare, but if you suspect an older word could make a comeback, you can hide just the recent answers and keep the oldies in play.

Dressed the new range picker properly for dark mode - the selected chip no longer glows light-mode bright during late-night solving.

Fixed the Quick Start bar above the solver, which could squish its three tips into an overlapping jumble at in-between window sizes - not quite phone, not quite full screen. It now folds into two tidy rows whenever space gets tight.

Past Wordle Answers no longer shows difficulty or frequency badges for puzzles that have not been revealed yet, and tomorrow's entry is now fully hidden from the page until it goes live. Thanks to the sharp-eyed reader who noticed tomorrow's answer could peek through the monthly "Hardest" label - great catch!
